Mystery Liquid is Identified (Samworths)
Submitted by: Jim on Aug 17, 2006
An investigation into a strange black liquid discovered flowing
into a pool stream has been concluded.
The black effluent was spotted flowing into a storm drainage
pool that feeds into Braunstone Brook, in Leicester Forest
East, in May.
The brook was shut by the Environment Agency as investigators
took samples to find out what the liquid was and where it
was coming from.
Today, a spokeswoman for the agency said the effluent had
been food waste leaking from a skip .
She said: "The problem was contaminated water leaking
from a skip that contained food from a factory.
"It was very minor pollution and the company did everything
we asked to clean it up. It did not actually contaminate the
brook."
Residents had feared the liquid was toxic and would kill
wildlife in the area. [http://www.lferesident.co.uk/images/sam_stream3.gif]
