Local Planning Issues
Gypsy Caravan Site at 77 Hinckley Road LFE Submitted by: Brian on Aug 17, 2006

This planning application went before the Blaby District Development Control Committee this afternoon and was refused by unanimous vote.

See earlier article dated August 07 (Important Dates) for more details of the application.

The meeting comenced promptly at 16:30 and this was the second case to be heard. Councillor David Parsons spoke first with a rousing address to the packed Council Chambers, supporting the feelings of all the residents who had written or signed petitions opposing this application.

Several other councillors then spoke reporting to the Committee on various aspects of the case, and Councillor Andrew Senior gave a brief presentation stating the detail of the application itself.

The Chair then offered the floor to public speakers.

Brian Etherington spoke first, reading a prepared statement opposing the application on various grounds including conflicts with the Blaby District Local Plan, safety of the community and health risks to the applicant and his own family.

Concillor Malcolm Fox then gave a detailed presentation, stating the case from the Parish Council viewpoint, again echoing the feelings of the majority of residents.

Although there would have been opportunities for speakers on behalf of the Supporter(s) and the Applicant, no other public speakers were called.

Before the Committee voted, one District Councillor stated that at the approximate time of submission of this application, it had been reported that Mr. Maloney had approached owners of a number of other nearby properties, making offers to buy their properties for 20% above the current market value (sorry - I don't know who this councillor was).

The Chair then called for a vote in support of the Parish Council's original recommendation to refuse the application, which was carried unanimously.

It is important to remember though, that although the application has been refused at this time, it is possible for the application to go to appeal.

We will bring more news as it occurs.

As an addendum
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the occupier of the property next to this application I would sincerely like thank all the residents who have given their time and effort in helping to present a strong case in the rejection of Mr Maloneys case. This ranges from help in the delivery of leaflets to moral support to help and advice. Also the number of people who wrote to Blaby DC was most impressive.

As pointed out Mr Moloney has the the right to appeal which must be made within six months of this decision.

Thanks again to all concerned including our Parish Council .
