A plan to build
4,250 houses looks set to get the backing of councillors.
A group of developers
wants to build the homes in Lubbesthorpe.
At a meeting of
Leicestershire County Council's cabinet yesterday,
members were told by officers that the homes were
needed and that they were in a good place, although
there were several issues that needed to be resolved.
Cabinet member
Byron Rhodes said: "It's right not to give it
a green light but to give it an amber light, which
is what we are doing."
Issues that still
need to be resolved include the amount of accommodation
for the elderly, the exact size of the employment
area, sporting facilities and transport.
The leader of
the county council, David Parsons, is the member for
Kirby Muxloe, near Lubbesthorpe.
He has stated
his opposition to the plan and took no part in the
cabinet meeting while the Lubbesthorpe plan was discussed.
The decision on
the application will be made by Blaby District Council.
The county council is a consultee.
About 1,200 comments
about the proposals – most of which are objections
– have so far been made to the district council.
