Kirby Forest West - Submitted 19 Jun 09

Upto 3,500 homes could be built on the edge of Leicester Forest East/Kirby Muxloe (Hinckley Road/ Beggars Lane). This would be equivalent to the size of a small town such as Uppingham or Melton!

It is one of three options identified by Blaby District Council for new homes that have to be built to meet "Government targets".

Our neighbours at Kirby Muxloe Parish Council are going it alone instead of working with the L.F.E. Parish Council, they believe the Leicester Forest East site " C " between the M1 and Beggars Lane is the most suitable option. Site " C" would have new access roads created from Thorpe Astley and near to the M69/M1 intersection. " X "

In January, a public meeting was held in Kirby Muxloe and more than 200 Kirby residents turned out to spell out why they were against the plans to build in site " B ". Hundreds of leaflets calling on Blaby Council to go with the Leicester Forest East site " C " were signed by Kirby Muxloe villagers. Read the previous artilcle >> here <<

Leicestershire County Council support Site ' C ' as a potential location for 4000 new homes. They say site ' C' has the best critical mass to provide adequate infrastructure and facilities, including transport infrastructure. However, it would need to be carefully designed to avoid damaging the Scheduled remains of Lubbesthorpe deserted medieval village, its associated archaeological remains, field system and setting".

At a meeting held on 10th March at the L.F.E. Parish Council hall on Kings Drive, L.F.E. residents had an opportunity to to discuss the proposals to build 1000's of houses in the parish.

Although the date of the meeting was published in the Winter edition of our award winning magazine (pages 14 &15) and delivered to all addresses within the parish, the attendance of around 75 members out of 5,000 residents. was disappointing considering the implications to everyone living in and around the parish.

About half the members of the public were from Forest House Lane and other parts of the Wilson Estate, others were from Hobill Close, Queens Drive, Kings Drive, Kirloe Avenue concerned over reports that site " C " closest to there homes had already been chosen.

Also in attendance were the Chairman of the Parish Council, Bob Scott, Leicestershire County Councillor David Parsons, Blaby District Councillors David Clements and Tony Dolby and the Clerk to L.F.E. Parish Council.

Notes form the meeting can be viewed by visiting the L.F.E. Parish website or by clicking on the following link Notes from Public Meeting 10 3 09 which will open a WORD document in a new window from the L.F.E. Parish website.
