LFE - CAR CRIME ON THE INCREASE Submitted by Brian 18 Mar 2008

Car Radio Theft: A local parishioner awoke this morning to find her Ford Focus minus one driver's window, and stereo radio. The lady concerned called the police who took all the usual details, but were not able to offer much hope of getting the unit returned. See stats below

A spokesman for AutoGlass UK, who attended within three hours of the incident being reported, said that there has been a spate of similar vehicle break-ins in the LFE area, and further afield in Barwell and Hinckley.

Apparently there are a group of individuals who seem to believe that this model of radio contains a 'chip' which can decode Sky Satellite channels. For this reason, primarily Ford Focus models are being targeted, although the same type of radio is fitted to a great many other models. The spokesman concerned also confirmed that these radios do not contain any such decoding circuitry.

For the peace of mind of all car owners, particularly those with a Ford Focus model, police advise parking vehicles in a locked garage overnight, wherever possible.
