Door Collection Scam - Submitted by Gerry 08 Dec 2008

During the early part of Sunday afternoon the 7th December, three youths carried out a house to house collection supposedly on behalf of the Kathleen Rutland Home.

Any cash was put into a black and white plastic carrier bag which had on it the initials J.D. and the collection was of course a complete scam, it being carried out without the knowledge of the home and is the equivalent of obtaining money by deception.

They were very confident in their approach, one even saying that a quarter of the money they were allowed to keep for themselves (how generous). Even when told and asked for some form of i.d. they were still unfazed which leads you to assume that this not the first (and maybe not the last) occasion that the scam has been operated.

If any household is approached, please do not give anything - simply make an excuse such as you have no change left at all, or that you will deliver yourself (it is after all only just up the road in this locality)- then telephone the Police using the Crimestoppers number which is 222 2222 giving as good a description as possible.

Finally, please tell your friends and neighbours to be aware of such incidents
