Serious Incident closes footpath in L.F.E. Submitted 23 Oct 2007

An alleyway on the outskirts of Leicester was cordoned off following what was believed to have been a "serious incident".

Police officers and forensics crimes officers were at the scene throughout yesterday afternoon, though details of exactly what happened were sketchy.

Both ends of the alleyway between the Hinckley Road and Maytree Drive, in Leicester Forest East, remained cordoned off until well into the night/

Police cars guarded both ends of the alley, which is several hundred feet long, while a scientific support van was parked at the Hinckley Road end.

Nobody from Leicestershire Police was available for comment last night, but it is understood an incident - possibly an attack - may have occurred at around 11pm on Sunday.

Police are understood to have arrived at about 3.30pm yesterday.

Hinckley Road resident Jim Wiltshire lives a few doors along from where the police were stationed.

He said: "We went out early yesterday afternoon and they said there had been a serious incident at 11pm on Sunday and asked if we had heard anything.

"I think they turned up at about 3.30pm to 3.45pm, and the alleyway was blocked off both ends."
