M1 Widening

Bullet Points for Your Protest Letter Against the Highway Agency Proposals for Widening the M1 & the M1/M69 Link.

When writing to oppose the Highway Agency proposals (addresses below) you might include the following points:

- that replacement of the Hinckley Road over bridge by a parallel new bridge, to un-necessarily widen the M1, will cause serious disruption, house and land purchase with substantial environmental impact both short and long term for Leicester Forest East,

- the proposed M1/M69 link will cause environmental intrusion and substantial impact on the established housing developments of Leicester Forest East already next to the M1 and the Service Area,

- the proposed M1 development and its prolonged timescale to 2015 will cause ‘housing blight’ in Leicester Forest East, for which there is already evidence,

- the overall scheme is much too complex and expensive for achieving its purpose,

- the proposed Highways Agency scheme would have substantial and deleterious effects on the wildlife, ecology and archaeology of the Lubbesthorpe area,

- the proposed Highways Agency scheme is one scheme only and no alternative schemes have been presented for consultation,

- that other schemes are viable alternatives, such as moving the M1/M69 flyover to the south of the Service Area, using land already in the ownership of the Highway Agency, or alternative motorway junctions/roads to the south of Leicester Forest East which connect with the extensive Park and Ride scheme at Enderby/Narborough.

Write your letter to both:
