Mystery of the grey box. Submitted by: Gerry on June 15, 2007

Ever wondered `What is the mysterious grey box situated directly by the entrance to the Kathleen Rutland Home?

I can reveal that this is for monitoring the pollution levels in the LFE area. Environmental Health Dept at Blaby District Council have hired the equipment for the last three or four months to get an accurate readings of the current pollution levels which they believe are relatively high.

This is of course BEFORE the widening of the M1 motorway as when that is carried out, levels are expected to rise again due to to year on year increasing levels of traffic, plus the extra volume of vehicles travelling south bound to gain access to the M69.

I will try to obtain the interpretation of the readings when they become available.

REVIEW OF AIR QUALITY AND NOISE POLLUTION IN BLABY DISTRICT

Purpose of the Report
This report sets out details of the work carried out by the County Council in relation to air quality and noise issues in Blaby District.
Current Situation
1. Air Quality
At present, there are three Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) in
Blaby District, all of which have been declared as a result of road traffic emissions. It is understood that further possible AQMAs are under consideration, but as yet these have not been declared. The three AQMAs are:
a) An area adjacent to the M1 in Narborough and Enderby;
b) An area adjacent to the M1 in Leicester Forest East; and
c) The area that includes Fosse Park and Narborough Road South.
2. Noise Pollution
There appear to be two major roads in Blaby District that are creating
significant noise pollution issues as a result of road traffic, although it is recognised that noise from road traffic is an issue that impacts on most residents in the District.
